Monarch Family Camping Trips

Monarch Learning Center offers two family camp trips per year.  Our fall outing for this year is to Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area. We will be at the Group Camp area.  The school has paid for the campsite, but we are accepting donations to help defray the cost.  The Monarch Boosters Committee is providing food at a cost of $2.50 per meal.  Interested families may pick up a camping packet at the office, or download one below.

We will set up camp on Thursday afternoon, September 25th, and we will stay until Sunday morning, September 28th.  Families are welcome to attend all or any part of the campout.  Information for day-trippers is in the packet.  Student activities will begin at 9:00 AM and will end at about 3:30 PM.  Parents are responsible for their children at all times outside of school activities.

Important Safety Information

There is poison oak in the woods around the campground.  We will point it out to the kids during the hikes. Be sure to remind them during family time to stay away from it.  If you stay on the trails and in the campground areas, you should not have a problem. You may want to pack some TecnuŽ Outdoor Skin Cleanser (available at any drug store) to use after outings as a preventative, or at the first signs of rash.
There is also a plant called chokeweed that bears poisonous berries.  They are not fatal, but can make you pretty sick. We will show students and parents what it looks like also so that everyone knows not to eat them.
Some of the trails near the river are closed due to steep cliffs where the
bank washed out last winter, but they are not all clearly marked. Please take
extreme care when hiking with your children near the river. The best place to access the river for swimming or wading is at the county park, about ˝ mile west-southwest of the campground.
